Speech writing | Complete Format & Samples in PDF

Speech has the power to inspire, motivate, or make the environment thought-provoking. If we look at the books or history, we have great examples where leaders used this instrument to change the nation and to win people’s hearts. Speech writing does not only mean to use words that you feel, but it also means to deliver your emotions or whatever you want to convey in a way that people want to hear.

speech class 11  is an important part of the English syllabus for class 12. This is why students need to know how to write a speech from a very young age. This skill will help them throughout life, as speech writing is a major part when it comes to communicating with a large number of people. Let us go through some format, examples, and other details related to speech writing.

What is Speech Writing?

Speech writing is an integral part of creative skills used to convey a thought or message to the reader or listener. It is necessary to use the proper grammar and expression. Other types of narrative writing differ from speech writing.

During speech writing, a student should be aware of certain punctuation and writing style techniques. There is a proper format used for writing the speech, which will be discussed below. Other than this, speech writing also involves 8 parts: nouns, pronouns, verbs, adjectives, prepositions, conjunctions, interjections, and adverbs.

Format of Speech Writing

In the format of speech writing for class 11, we include the introduction, body, and conclusion.

  • In the introduction, we usually greet the audience, tell them something about ourselves, and further introduce the topic that we will be discussing in our body.

  • In the body of the speech, we presented the topic in an elaborative way or a detailed manner, explaining the pros, cons, characteristics, features, or anything else that is useful for the audience to know and through which we can draft a conclusion.

  • Coming towards the conclusion is a summary of the speech that we spoke. We wrap up the topic and leave the audience with a reminder to think about what we said. Conclusions are usually questions or statements that leave the remark in the mind of the audience.

Speech Writing: Examples

Here are some examples of the speech writing mentioned that students can go through:

Write a speech to be delivered in the school assembly as Tanushka of St. Conrad’s Inter College emphasises the importance of cleanliness, implying that the level of cleanliness represents the character of its residents. (150-200 words)

“Cleanliness is next to godliness,” said the great John Wesley.
Hello, respected principals, instructors, and good friends. Today, I, Tanushka Sharma, stand in front of you all to emphasise the significance of cleanliness.

Cleanliness is the condition or attribute of being or remaining clean. Everyone must learn about cleaning, hygiene, sanitation, and the different diseases that are produced by unsanitary circumstances. It is essential for physical well-being and the maintenance of a healthy atmosphere at home and school. A filthy atmosphere invites a large number of mosquitoes to grow and spread dangerous diseases. On the other hand, poor personal cleanliness causes a variety of skin disorders as well as lowered immunity.

Habits formed at a young age become ingrained in one’s personality. Even if we teach our children to wash their hands before and after meals, brush their teeth, and bathe regularly, we are unconcerned about keeping public places clean. On October 2, 2014, the Indian Prime Minister began the “Swachh Bharat” program to offer sanitation amenities to every family, including toilets, solid and liquid waste disposal systems, village cleanliness, and safe and appropriate drinking water supplies. Teachers and children in schools are actively participating in the ‘Clean India Campaign’ with zeal and excitement.

Good health ensures a healthy mind, which leads to better overall productivity, higher living standards, and economic development. It will improve India’s international standing. As a result, a clean environment is one with fewer illnesses. Thus, cleanliness is defined as a symbol of mental purity.

Thank you very much.

You are Sanya, the school’s head girl. You are greatly troubled by the increasing instances of aggressive behaviour among your students. You decide to speak about it during the morning assembly. Create a speech about “school discipline." (150–200 words)

Indiscipline in schools

It has been reported that the frequency of fights and incidences of bullying in our school has increased dramatically in the previous several months. Good morning to everyone present. Today, I, Sanya, your head girl, am here to shed light on the serious topic of “Increased Indiscipline in Schools.”

It has come to light that instructor disobedience, bullying, confrontations with students, truancy, and insults are becoming more widespread. Furthermore, there have been reports of parents noticing a shift in their children’s attitudes. As a result, many children are suffering emotionally, psychologically, and physically. The impact of this mindset on children at a young age is devastating and irreversible.

Not to mention the harm done to the school’s property. Theft of chalk, scribbling on desks, walls, and lavatory doors, destruction of CCTV cameras, and so forth. We are merely depriving ourselves of the comforts granted to us by doing so.

Following numerous meetings, it was determined that the main reasons for the problem were a lack of sufficient guidance, excessive use of social media, and peer pressure. The council is working to make things better. Everyone is required to take life skills classes. Counselling, motivating, and instilling friendly ideals will be part of the curriculum. Seminars for parents and students will be held regularly.

A counsellor is being made available to help you all discuss your sentiments, grudges, and personal problems. We are doing everything we can and expect you to do the same. So, let us work together to create an environment in which we encourage, motivate, assist, and be nice to one another because we are good and civilised humans capable of a great deal of love.

Thank you very much.

Points To Remember While Writing a Speech

While writing a speech, one should remember that a good speech is well on time, should be informative enough, and should be thought-provoking for the audience. Here are some tips for writing a good speech and some points that people should remember while draughting a speech:

  • Make sure to use detailed research on your topic before you start writing. Including facts and figures is very attractive and appealing to the audience, and it makes the speech stronger and people believe the speaker more.

  • One should use one or two open-ended or thought-provoking questions. Questions will always help in making the audience think about what their perspective is on the topic, and eventually, they can relate to the speaker positively or negatively, but at the end of the day, they will listen and be engaged.

  • The one who is writing the speech should know their audience before they start writing, as the audience is categorised based on age group, gender, interests, literacy, knowledge of the topic, place, etc. By using the information, one can write the speech accordingly, and this will also help the audience to understand what is being addressed.

  • An important part of the speech is to time it properly. If the speech is too long or too short, people will not engage or can get bored. Avoid these people. They should not exceed the word limit and should not take the time that they are taking while speaking the whole part of the speech. 1 minute should be kept extra so that it can be used for the part of asking questions or doubts.

How is speech writing different from writing an article, a brief, or a proposal?

It is believed that length is the major difference between a speech and an article, brief, or proposal. But this is not wholly true, as what makes a difference is that it is made for speaking among people. Even if one writes well and after reading he or she feels that it looks good, it cannot be assured that while reading it is allowed or when the audience listens to it, it will be as effective as it looks.

Speech is a very interesting piece of work that will be read allowed among the audience. Writing a speech is very different from writing an article brief for a proposal, as speaking and writing are very different versions of the same language. The one who is writing should take note of the differences and write accordingly due to their authentic outputs and functions.

By going through these examples and the format given for the speech writing, students can easily understand the importance of different punctuation and writing styles. Students can go through the samples to understand how to write a speech from top to bottom, and this is how they can score marks in their English exam. all the best.
